“88888888” is a solo album by unique vocalist Yurai.
The title means infinity and on this album Yurai succeeds in creating an image of the infinity of the universe using her voice alone.
The harmonies that Yurai creates cannot be written down in traditional musical notation.
You can sense the distinctive elements of world music in her voice.
Yurai’s individual musical sense comes from the fusion of two very different cultures: her birth place of Yamagata in north eastern Japan and her upbringing in NY.
In fact, on this album you can hear the influence of jazz and afro music which she experienced in NY.
But in addition her melodies also conjure up a nostalgic feeling for the wide open spaces of Japanese nature.
This album overflows with the attractions and possibilities of the human voice in a way that only Yurai could create.
Additional sound effects are supplied by Musilogue engineer Shinjiro Ikeda and Musilogue founder Ryota Nozaki.

無限大と題されたこのアルバムの名前の通りYuraiは彼女自身の声のみによって無限に広がる宇宙を感じさせる音楽を創り上げました。
Yuraiの作り上げるハーモニーというのは、楽譜に表記できない、１２音では解決できない、そんな民族音楽の持つ独特な要素を感じさせます。
Yuraiのこの独自のセンスは、生まれ育った東北山形、そして若き日に住んだNY、そんな全く異なる文化の融合により作り上げられた結晶と言えるでしょう。
実際このアルバムの中では、彼女がNYで体験したであろうJazzやアフロサウンドの響きが聞けます。
しかしその上で聞ける彼女の歌うメロディーはどこか日本の大自然が浮かぶような懐かしさを感じさせてくれます。
今作は、人間の声の魅力そして可能性を存分に表現したアルバムであり、まさに彼女でしか創り上げられない作品となっています。
